Creating a front page for a school magazine

Creating a front page for a school magazine

This is the final school magazine aimed towards students, I was assigned to this task, as a preliminary task, the focus of this task was to allow me to gain skills on how to simply use photo shop as well as learn of the genres, conventions and how a magazine simply looks like, as well as gain a deeper understanding in producing a magazine cover. I had to look at past preliminary school magazine covers as well as real school magazine covers. By looking at other magazine covers, I was able to identify which features allowed the magazine to look sharp and eye-catching. The features I looked out for was, how were the puffs and lures being used as well as what content did the cover have on it. I also looked at the graphics used on the cover, the graphics played a huge part in the make up of my front cover as, in reality the students want to see something that catches their attention on what is on the inside of the magazine, therefore I added in a little humour through graphics such as the 'Keep calm and join the Student Council'.
In addition to this I also made sure that I used three colours throughout producing the cover, i used red, white and black which went with the image I used in the background of the student.I used the colour red to allow the magazine to look bright and lively so students would be tempted to pick up the magazine and read it, however to tone it down I used black and white to allow the cover to look informative as well as fun for the students.

Adding to this by looking at examples of other school magazine covers I found that the magazines all had a house style running through the contents and cover, which helped me in producing the content as well as the cover.By carrying out this preliminary task I found it very helpful as i learnt what to include as well as what not to include when creating a magazine cover.
