The Final Double Page Article

Creating The Final Double Page Article

Above is the final double page article, as you can see I kept the same format as in the font style, colour and housestyle. This was because it made sense to make sure that all my font and housetlye was the same, and did not look different to the contents and cover of the magazine as it is from the same music magazine. As you can see as it is the double page article I used more orange as wellas red, this was because I found it stood out, and caught attention as it was much more brighter. I used grey as the background as I found the writing stood out on it. I also used a large capital letter at the beginning of the mdoels name as, it puts emphasis on the fact that the model is important. It also looks attractive and more like a article. I also numbered the pages, to allow the readers to figure out what page it is. I wrote the article myself about Hailey's journey as well as how she got to where she is now. I used images I had took in order to evident Hailey was on tour.

The Final Contents Page

Creating the Final Contents Page

Firstly looking at the contents page, because I had already created a music magazine cover, it became easier for me to create a contents page, because I knew that I had to keep the same housestyle all throughout my magazine. Therefore I knew what colours I would be using such as the marrons, orange black and white. In order to make the contets page a little more informative I used more grpahics as to what would be going on in the inside of the magazine, therefore I made sure that when creating the contents page, I did not give away too much information and did not give too little, as it draws the reader in. 4

The whole point of the contents page is to give the reader information about what is inside of the magazine briefly i.e features, regulars and specials. I categorised the contents page into 3 sections, this made the contents page look more realistic and cleared the contents page. I also tried to use 2 colours as the background when creating thebackground this was because it gave the contents page an edge and looked to fit in as being a country pop music magazine. I used the orange colour that I had used before, on the models name as well as the first letter of the features, regulars and upbeat. This was because I found it looked more attarctive and appeling with a hint of orange. The final peice which is above was given summative as well as formative feedback which was very helpful, as I was told what could look better as well as what didnt look so attractive therefore helped to improve my work.

Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I believe my media product which is a music magazine cover challenges forms of real meida products as there is not much music magazine solely on country pop therefore allows my magazine to look unique, and has great potiental. My magazine has the potienatal to develop and grow into a real media product as I have written the magazine article myself and have constructed a contents, article and cover by looking at previous magazines that have been sold worldwide.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I believe that my media product can represent both a young audience as well as an older audience, as the language I have used is appropriate for both and contry pop is not only aimed at a young audience but both i.e taylor swift's fan range from a high to a low age. The social group I was aiming at was not too young but not too old, this is represented in the colours and images I have used, if it was for more of a younger audience I would have used pinks and blues, however it is the opposite therefore it is aimed at an older audience from the age19 and above.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

In my opinon I think that Bauer Magazine, would distribute my media product, as it already features, a variety of magazines from Kerrang, pop and mojo which are different and unique in their own way
thererfore my magazine would fit more within the bauer category as all the magzines are different and unique in their own way, if bauer magazine was to distribute my magazine this would give the institution a variety and a wider variety as Bauer already has a variety of magazines.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my media product would be aged from 19 and above as it is very informative and would not attract  a younger audience, from looking at the level of attraction.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I made sure that the models I was using were the same age range as to who I was directing the whole audience towards. This was clever technique used, because If i used an older model it would attract the wrong audience as, people first look at the image on the front of the magazine to see who it is and what music they produce, therefore it was important that I used a model aged 19 to attract the right audience. I attrtacted the audience by using artists on the sides that were young and just got into music such as Hannah and Inayah. I also used bands that are popular in the age group of 19and above to attract the right audience.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

From looking at where I started off from, I did not know at all how to use photoshop, because I had never used photoshop before, therefore by carrying out the preliminary task I learnt alot about how to simply add layers as well as how to brighten the brightness, and contrast of the image, as well as how to sharpen the images, therefore I learnt many things with creating articles, covers and contents pages.I also learnt about, how to use a camera i.e using different shots such as a long shot, mid shot and a close up.

Looking back at your prelimiary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at myprelimiary task I have learnt alot about positioning and how carry out different camera shots and use photoshop more, i,e i learnt about how to sue the tools and using more relaisitc images, I also leanr how to use different fonts as well as using a clearer  masthead.

Music Magazine Cover

The Process of Creating a Music Magazine Cover

First of all before going on photoshop, I started off by deciding what genre I would like my music magazine to be. I decided between two genres which was classical and country pop. In order to come to a decision I looked at previous bands and looked deeper into what type of music gnere I usually listen to in terms of music, as a result I came towards the decision of producing a country pop music magazine cover, this was because I was more interested and in this genre of music, and I knew more about the genre itself.
I then started collecting images for the front of my cover before anything else so I knew what look and style I would be following on with such as the mast head, puffs and lures. Because I was creating a country pop music magazine cover I drew up a plan in my media sketchbook, which included the font of the mast head and what colours I would use in the magazine, and what other grpahics I could use on the front. I took many photos in order to select the appropriate shot and link it with the genre country pop.

As you can see below I have listed the images that I took however I did not find they were suitable for my magazine cover, however they evident the photogrpahs taken. The photos I have listed below are the photos I did not select for my magazine cover this is because the lighting in the photograph was uneven or the shot was not decent, as in soemtimes the models head was cut off etc. This was my final music magazine cover, however was improved from class feedback as well as tutor feedback, the improvements that were made included the masthead looking more bolder therefore I added a cream outline to go with the maroon, so it would stand out. I also used a hint of orange to make the puffs and lures to stand out which is a clever technique used in order to attract the audience. This was suggested in my feedback, which I took on board.

Contents Page for School Magazine

Creating a Contents Page For School Magazine

This is the final school contents page, which is the second page of my school magazine, this preliminary task allowed me to gain knowledge on how to produce a contents page, as i learnt how to number the pages as well as what the contents page should include, however because i did not look at solely school magazine contents pages.

Therefore found this task a little tougher than the cover of the magazine, because I did not know what sort of images to use as it was contents page and not a cover, as a result some images are overlapping the writing.

I did look at contents pages therefore struggled with the   format. This preliminary task allowed me to gain knowledge for example what  features to include in a contents page as well as what colours and images to use.

Powerpoint Generic Conventions of Magazines

Powerpoint Covering Generic Conventions of Magazines

I created a powerpoint as you can see on the left, which includes; the types of genres, annotated front magazine covers, as well as a brief case study of a school magazine and a college magazine.

The purpose of this task was to simply find out about school magazines which allowed me to make sure i was sure of how to create a contents page as well as school magazine cover. I used this powerpoint when creating my school magazine cover and contents, as it helped to remind me of how a professional school magazine should look like. Therefore if I could not think of what to use as a puff or a lure i looked back to this powerpoint, which allowed me to make judgements about my own work which allowed me to improve my cover and contents page.

This task helped me, because i found out what information i could include in my own magazine cover, I paid attention towards the colours that were used in both magazines, as colour plays a major part in attracting the right audience. I also looked at what information was used for the puffs and lures as they are totally different from music magazines that I had looked at previously, therefore gave me an idea on how to present my cover and contents page. By looking at school magazine covers I looked at the images that were used and why they stood out, as well as who was on the front cover, as it is important that the image is sharp and relevant.

Annotated Magazine Cover

Annotated Entertainment Magazine Cover

This is an annotated Entertainment Magazine Cover, I did this in order to analyse all the different features that were going on including puffs, lures, images tag lines and subheadings. This was a simple task as I had to pick out all the different techniques being used. At this point I had learnt more about what makes a good magazine and what is it that makes the cover look attractive.

I picked out the main things that stood out to me as a cover. Such as the language used as well as who was starring on the front of the cover.
For example the image that is used, instantly would catch someones eye as it is bold and a large image that takes up a lot of space, adding to this you can also see that the masthead is covered slightly, this happens often if the magazine is popular, the idea behind this is because it is famous and well known therefore would be automatically recognised as a  'Heat' magazine.

Genres of Magazines

Genres of Magazines:

I looked at different genres of magazines in order to allow me to acknowledge what differentiated all the different genres of magazines. By carrying out this activity it allowed me to make sure I understood what exactly made each cover look different. I found that different colours represented a whole different mood for the entire cover, for example looking at teen magazines, many bright colours were used, due to the target audience it was aimed at, i.e because it was aimed at a young audience the cover was more attractive looking with large headings, everything was placed according to the audience it was aimed at.
However looking at home/living magazines, this was a total opposite to teen magazines as it was so much more simpler, because it was aimed at a maturer audience, it was aimed at someone who owns a home and is looking to design the place. Again the colours were purposely used such as the brown and white to allow the cover to create a neautral look to the magazine, adding to this an image was also used to allow the reader or passer by to look at the interior of the house and how it is styled. To conclude this by comparing and looking at all of the genres of magazines I found this task to be very helpful as I knew what to look for when creating my front cover.

1) Gardening

2) Home/Living

3) Teen

4) Music

5) Lifestyle

6) Fashion

7) Men’s

8) Women’s

 9) Health/Fitness

10) News

11) Entertainment

12) Videogames

13) Football

Creating a front page for a school magazine

Creating a front page for a school magazine

This is the final school magazine aimed towards students, I was assigned to this task, as a preliminary task, the focus of this task was to allow me to gain skills on how to simply use photo shop as well as learn of the genres, conventions and how a magazine simply looks like, as well as gain a deeper understanding in producing a magazine cover. I had to look at past preliminary school magazine covers as well as real school magazine covers. By looking at other magazine covers, I was able to identify which features allowed the magazine to look sharp and eye-catching. The features I looked out for was, how were the puffs and lures being used as well as what content did the cover have on it. I also looked at the graphics used on the cover, the graphics played a huge part in the make up of my front cover as, in reality the students want to see something that catches their attention on what is on the inside of the magazine, therefore I added in a little humour through graphics such as the 'Keep calm and join the Student Council'.
In addition to this I also made sure that I used three colours throughout producing the cover, i used red, white and black which went with the image I used in the background of the student.I used the colour red to allow the magazine to look bright and lively so students would be tempted to pick up the magazine and read it, however to tone it down I used black and white to allow the cover to look informative as well as fun for the students.

Adding to this by looking at examples of other school magazine covers I found that the magazines all had a house style running through the contents and cover, which helped me in producing the content as well as the cover.By carrying out this preliminary task I found it very helpful as i learnt what to include as well as what not to include when creating a magazine cover.

Lady Antebellum Brief Case Study

Lady Antebellum Brief Case Study:

In order to help me to create my own music magazine cover I researched on the band Lady Antebellum. I found out what awards and nominations they had achieved and how they formed as a band. I also researched on what different styles they had on the album covers, i did this because it would give me an ideas on how to present country pop artists on my music magazine, if I did choose to represent the genre of artists. I also created a small brief presentation to show the class about who Lady Antebellum are.

Starting off with, who are Lady Antebellum?

-Lady Antebellum are an American Country Pop music group formed in Nashville.
-The trio is composed of Hillary Scott (Lead Vocal), Charles Kelley 9Lead Vocal) and Dave Haywood (background vocals, guitar and piano).
-Genres are country and country pop.
-Labels: Capitol Nashville
